How do I calculate my UCAS points?
To calculate your UCAS points, find the Tariff value of each grade and add them together:
- List every qualification you are taking.
- Look up the points for each grade in the table below.
- Add the points to get your total.
For example, AAB at A-level is 48 + 48 + 40 = 136 UCAS points.
How many UCAS points is A*A*A?
A*A*A at A-level is worth 160 UCAS points: 56 + 56 + 48.

What 3 grades give you 112 UCAS points?
BBC gives 112 UCAS points, and so do A*BE, A*CD, AAE, ABD, ACC. Every route is on 112 UCAS points.
How to get 8 more UCAS points
The quickest way to add 8 points is an extra qualification with a Tariff value, such as an EPQ, where grade E alone is worth 8 points.
Other examples from the 2026 Tariff tables: Core Maths (6 to 20 points) and a Grade 8 ABRSM music performance exam (24 to 30 points). Check that your chosen course counts them.
Do all universities use UCAS points?
No, some universities state entry requirements in UCAS Tariff points and others in grades, according to UCAS.
A qualification with Tariff points is also not automatically accepted by every course, so read each course's entry requirements.
